449 Fresh COVID-19 Cases Recorded In The Sttae On Monday; 144 Through Contact

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala reported 449 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press meet here. He was speaking to the media after the COVID review meeting.


Out of the total COVID positive cases, 144 developed the disease through contact. Meanwhile, 162 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.


Of the total cases, 140 came from abroad, 64 came from other states, health workers - 5, DSC - 10, BSF - 1, Indo Tibetan border force - 77, Fire force - 4, KSC - 3. The source of 18 COVID positive cases have not been traced.


The Chief Minister expressed condolence over the deaths of two people, Kollam native Thyagarajan (74), and Kannur native Aysha (64), who died on Monday. Thyagarajan had tested positive for the virus on Friday.


Alappuzha has the most number of cases with 119, Thiruvananthapuram - 63, Malappuram - 47, Pathanamthitta - 47, Kannur - 44, Kollam - 33, Palakkad - 19, Kozhikode - 16, Ernakulam - 15, Wayanad - 14, Kottaym - 10, Thrissur and Kasaragod - 9 each and Idukki - 4.


Among the 162 recoveries, 3 are from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam - 10, Pathanamthitta - 2 Alappuzha - 7, Kottayam and Ernakulam - 12 each, Thrissur - 14, Palakkad - 25, Malappuram - 28, Kozhikode - 8, Wayand - 16, Kannur - 20 and Kasaragod - 5.


A total of 12,230 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 1,80,594 people are under observation out of which 4,374 have been admitted in hospitals. 713 people were taken to hospitals on Monday, the highest until date in the state.


So far, 2,44,388 samples have been sent for testing. Out of this, results of 5,407 samples are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance, 78,002 samples were collected from priority groups. Out of which 74,676 samples were negative. There are 223 hotspots in the state at present.


Special action plan has been prepared to prevent the disease transmission in coastal areas. There are 51 clusters in the state currently, including 2 large community clusters, the CM said.


Triple lockdowns have been implemented Manickavilakam, Poonthura, Puthanpalli wards in Thiruvananthapuram city along with all wards in Chavara, Panmana, Pattanakkad, Edakkarappally, Cherthala South, Mararikkulam North, Kodamthuruth, Thuravur Arattupuzha, Chellanam, Veliyamkadu, Perumnbadappa panchayats, and Ponnani, Thanur Muncipalities.
