Know Father Tom Uzhunnalil, The Kerala Catholic Priest Rescued From ISIS Captivity

NEW DELHI: The Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on announced that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued. Catholic priest Tom Uzhunnalil was abducted by the Islamic State in Yemen last year. Taking to Twitter, Sushma Swaraj wrote, “I am happy to inform that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued.”

– His name is Thomas Uzhunnalil; popularly known as Father Tom Uzhunnalil
– Thomas Uzhunnalil has been held captive since March 2016
– Father Uzhunnalil was abducted by ISIS in March 2016
– ISIS abducted him during a terrorist raid on a Missionaries of Charity-run old age home in Aden in Yemen; at least 16 people including four nuns were killed in the attack
– Uzhunnalil hails from Kerala
– Precisely, Uzhunnalil belongs to Ramapuram village in Kerala’s Kottayam district
– Uzhunnalil had earlier made an emotional appeal for a rescue through a five-minute video that was posted on YouTube’
– According to news agency AFP, “Muscat has secured the release of the Indian priest who was abducted during a deadly attack by Islamist militants in Yemen.”
