KOCHI: Kochi Metro MD Alkesh Kumar Sharma stated that the Central Government has granted the complete amount that was demanded by KMRL for the second phase of the project.
According to Alkesh Sharma, this will power the growth of KMRL.
Kochi Metro has been granted Rs 1,957 crores in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday. The money has been granted for expanding the metro services to Info Park as part of the second phase of the project. The Parliamentary Committee that visited Kochi last week reviewed its works.
Alkesh Kumar stated that the initial work in the second phase has already started. The estimated time for the completion of the second phase is 48 months. However, it is considered that the work can be completed even before this, he added.
The proposal for the 3rd phase will be submitted depending on the progress of the second phase work. Metro will connect Aluva and Nedumbassery airport in the next phase.
