THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala recorded 30,491 new COVID cases on Thursday, informed a press release issued by the health department. The number of active cases touched 3,17,850 in the state as of today.
128 new fatalities were also confirmed. With this, the death toll mounted to 6852.
The test positivity rate was recorded at 23.18 percent.
A total of 1,31,525 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,84,21,465 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa, and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 124 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
172 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 28,176 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2042 patients remains unidentified.
101 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19.
44,369 recoveries were also reported in the state. So far, 19,38,887 people have recovered from the disease in Kerala.
9,99,338 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,60,653 are under home/institutional quarantine and 38,685 people are in hospitals. 3972 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday.
Five new places were added to the list of hotspots on Thursday and one place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 866 hotspots in the state.
