THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala logged 16,204 new Covid cases on Wednesday, informed a press release issued by the health department. With this, the number of active cases touched 1,39,064 in the state.
With 156 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 10,437.
Test positivity rate was recorded at 14.09 percent.
Meanwhile, 20,237 recoveries were also reported in the state. 25,24,248 people have recovered from the disease so far.
A total of 1,15,022 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 2,08,03,168 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
One of the UK returnees was confirmed with Covid in the last 24 hours. 154 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 15,048 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 928 patients remains unidentified.
74 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
5,92,079 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,59,683 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 32,396 people are in hospitals. 2527 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
No new place was added to the list of hotspots on Wednesday and no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 889 hotspots in the state.
