THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala recorded 21,402 new COVID cases on Monday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing the media.
87 new fatalities were also confirmed due to the Coronavirus infection. With this, the death toll mounted to 6515.
The test positivity rate was recorded at 24.74 percent.
Meanwhile, 99,651 recoveries were also reported in the state. So far, 18,00,179 people have recovered from the disease.
A total of 86,505 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,80,14,842 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa, and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 124 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
100 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 19,612 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1610 patients remains unidentified.
80 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
10,19,085 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,81,370 are under home/institutional quarantine and 37,715 people are in hospitals. 3630 people were taken to hospitals on Monday.
No new place was added to the list of hotspots on Monday and no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 853 hotspots in the state.
