Kerala Registers 37,190 New COVID Cases, 57 Fatalities

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid the second wave of the COVID-19, Kerala added 37,190 fresh cases to its tally on Tuesday. With this, the number of active cases touched 3,56,872 in the state.


The test positivity rate was registered at 26.08 percent.


57 deaths were also confirmed today. With this, the total number of deaths has touched 5507 in Kerala.


The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam- 5030, Kozhikode- 4788, Malappuram-4323, Thrissur – 3567, Thiruvananthapuram – 3388, Palakkad -3111, Alappuzha-2719, Kollam-2429, Kottayam – 2170, Kannur- 1985, Pathanamthitta- 1039, Wayanad-959 and Kasaragod-673.





1,42,588 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.


In total, 1,62,97,517 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.


A total of 6 UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 123 people including 114 UK returnees, 8 from South Africa, and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 114 of them have recovered from the disease.


So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.


201 of the COVID patients came from outside the state. 34,143 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 2728 patients remains unidentified.


118 health workers also tested positive for COVID on Tuesday. Among them, 32 were from Kannur, 17 from Thrissur, 13 from Thiruvananthapuram, 11 from Pathanamthitta, 9 each from Kollam, Wayanad, 8 from Kasaragod, 6 from Palakkad, 4 from Ernakulam, 3 from Malappuram and 2 each from Kottayam, Idukki, and Kozhikode.


26,148 recoveries were also reported in the state. To date, 13,39,257 people recovered from the disease.


7,59,744 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 7,31,629 are under home/institutional quarantine and 28,115 people are in home/institutional quarantine and 28,115 people are in hospitals. 3253 people were taken to hospitals on Tuesday.


15 new hotspots were identified on Tuesday while no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 699 hotspots in the state.
