THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala registered 25,820 new Covid cases on Sunday. With this, the number of active cases touched 2,77,598 in the state.

188 fatalities were confirmed. With this, the death toll mounted to 7358.

The test positivity rate was recorded at 22.81 percent.

Meanwhile, 37,316 recoveries were also reported in the state. 20,62,635 people recovered from the disease so far.

A total of 1,13,205 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,87,94,256 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa, and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 124 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.

177 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 24,224 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1328 patients remains unidentified.

91 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.

9,56,865 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,17,798 are under home/institutional quarantine and 39,067 people are in hospitals. 3606 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.

No new place was added to the list of hotspots on Sunday and no place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 877 hotspots in the state.
