Hard to believe, but yet it’s true. The cost of a cup of tea in one of the Tea Stalls in Kolkata is Rs.1,000/-. No. No. It’s not a price hike as in the case of Gas Cylinder, Petrol, or Diesel. The vendor says the cost of the variety of the tea leaf used to prepare the tea made him fix the rate so.
Nirjash is a Tea Stall in Mukundapur, a neighbourhood of East Kolkata. Partha Pratim Ganguly, a resident of Kolkata is the owner of the tea stall and he sells different varieties of tea ranging from Rs.12/- to Rs.1,000/-. About 100 varieties of tea are served at Nirjash, as a report says.
Now, let’s see as to how a cup of tea could cost Rs.1,000/-. This particular tea is prepared out of Bo-Lay tea which costs Rs.3 lakhs per KG. Bo-Lay tea is also known as Pu-erh tea or dark tea is a semi-rare type of tea that is made in Yunnan, China which is known for various health benefits. Some studies have shown that pu-erh may lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure and increase metabolism.
For those who could not afford Bo Lay tea, one can have other varieties of tea at Nirjash which includes several flavours such as Silver Needle White Tea, Lavender Tea, Hibiscus Tea, Wine Tea, Tulsi Ginger Tea, Blue Tisane Tea, Teesta Valley Tea, Makaibari Tea, Roobios Tea, and Okayti Tea.
Partha Pratim Ganguly was earlier working for a Company. Later, he decided to quit his job and start a business of his own. After several thoughts to decide upon the type of business to establish, he has decided to come up with a tea stall and so Nirjash came into existence in 2014 which has now gained a good level of popularity in Kolkata.
